Regimen + Goals

My Hair Regimen: I moisturize and/or oil my hair daily. As needed (usually weekly) I cleanse my hair and scalp with a moisturizing shampoo (or a clarifying one if there's build up). I do a moisturizing OR protein treatment with every shampoo. I stretch my relaxers 3-4 months.

My go-to protective/low manipulation styles: buns, braid-outs and halfwigs. In 2012 I want to start experimenting with more heat-free styles. I air dry most of the time and flat iron for length checks only.

I'm currently midback length (MBL) and actively working towards reaching waist length by my graduation in mid-2012.

Update, Rollersetting, Wash Day Plans & April Goals

Relaxed with Optimum No-Lye (as usual!). Added some olive oil (about 3 tbspns) to the relaxer mixture and now I have texlaxed roots. I like the thickness but I think next relaxer I'll skip the oil and just relax close to bone straight. I'm still BSL/MBL...I trimmed my ends while flat ironing by trimming off an inch or so off the very ends of each section...which clearly resulted in my hair not being perfectly even but it's okay!

I'm still using the same products and techniques, for example here are my plans for this weekend's wash day:
1) Pre-poo/hot oil treat with oil (either evoo, evco or jbco)
2) Shampoo with Keracare Hydrating Detangling shampoo (sulfate free)
3) Deep condition w/ Optimum deep conditioning masque
4) Leave-in: Optimum Anti-breakage leave-in Strengthener (my Aphogee Green Tea Rstructurizer ran out so I'll be using this for now)
5) Moisturize and seal
6) Attempt a ponytail rollerset and bun all weekend

Speaking of rollersetting I can't believe the challenge is already halfway completed! I'm looking forward to continuing to set about 2x per month. My hair is definitely getting the benefits of rollersetting.

April is right around the corner. That means final exams! Please wish me luck. I've also been focused more on my overall health so I have some fitness goals for April as well. As for hair, I'm still aiming for waist length this year and if it takes me until December I don't mind :) To get there I'll focus on using heat less often and deep conditioning more.

Oh! And I've been taking vitamins pretty consistently lately!
- Nature's Bounty Adult multivitamin gummies
- Nature's Bounty Your Life Multi Prenatal w/ Omega 3
- "Genuine Health o3mega" Omega-3 supplement

Got the natures bounty from zellers (which is closing so get yourself some closing sales!).

I've been taking these consistently for over a month and I haven't noticed any changes in my hair but I'll keep you posted. (PS - I take these for the body benefits not just for hair). I also drink at least one cup of Green tea every single day...no particular reason I just like it! But I heard it's good for you so that's a bonus too :)

Here is one of my REAL LIFE HAIR INSPIRATIONS!! I'm soo excited to share this pic with you guys. She's a classmate I've known for 4yrs. She ALWAYS has her hair in a bun or twists when I saw her hair loose I had to snap a pic!
My real life hair-spiration! <3 A little past waist length stretched.
She used to be 100% natural 4a/b and I was shocked to find out that she texturized her hair recently! She doesn't have a regimen and is not even close to being hair obsessed. All she does is wear her hair in a bun like 95% of the time and uses Sulfur 8. I did a length check on her and it's past waist length stretched...gorgeous!

Hope you all have a fabulous weekend :)

Relaxer Preparation

The relaxer I've been using since August 2008. My fav!
I'm currently 10 weeks post and planning to relax soon. The stretch has been pretty straightforward so far.

Last wash before relaxer:
1. Shampoo with a moisturizing shampoo
2. Condition with Aphogee 2 Minute Reconstructor (protein)
3. Follow up with Roux Moisturizing Conditioner (can't believe I found this at my local dollar store! Sally's sells it for at least $10).
4. Leave-in, moisturize and seal

Relaxer Day Steps:
A. Detangle hair and base scalp with Vaseline the night before and day of
B. Apply relaxer (with some EVOO mixed in) to new growth only
C. Rinse and do mid-relaxer protein step with Aphogee 2 Minute
D. Neutralize at least 5x, then deep condition
E. Apply leave-in and heat protectant (Nioxin Thermal Bliss)
F. Flat Iron with FHI ♥
G. Trim
H. ENJOY! :)
I. Preserve style at night by wrapping. No additional product to maintain body and bounce.

PS - Any idea for grad pic hair? Not the actual ceremony but just the picture that will forever be in the halls of my school. Post a comment below please
