Regimen + Goals

My Hair Regimen: I moisturize and/or oil my hair daily. As needed (usually weekly) I cleanse my hair and scalp with a moisturizing shampoo (or a clarifying one if there's build up). I do a moisturizing OR protein treatment with every shampoo. I stretch my relaxers 3-4 months.

My go-to protective/low manipulation styles: buns, braid-outs and halfwigs. In 2012 I want to start experimenting with more heat-free styles. I air dry most of the time and flat iron for length checks only.

I'm currently midback length (MBL) and actively working towards reaching waist length by my graduation in mid-2012.

Dry, Itchy Scalp: Help

Ever since the weather started cooling down, my scalp has been acting crazy. It gets really itchy only a few days after washing. And I never used to have an issue with dandruff but when I rub/itch my scalp I can see a whole bunch of flakes falling down.

I've tried co-washing and lubricating my scalp with JBCO to no avail. Moisturizer directly on my scalp just makes the itching worse. I would really like to go at least a week between washes but by the end of the week my scalp is extremely itchy to the point where small scabs are forming...yeah it's that bad :(


Any tips to help soothe this dry, itchy scalp of mine?

    I had it for a really long time and it was probably a reaction to the relaxer.. It took tiime to get rid of it but my tips are DON'T put mineral oil or petroleum products on your scalp, use natural oils, if you think they itch, stay away from thick castor oil, and maybe use a lighter one like coconut or almond oil?     My scalp was going through the same thing this past summer, and even now, my dandruff flares up off and on again... big gross flakes, intense itchiness. I had to postone my relaxer many times due to my scalp issues during the summer. What finally helped me was pre-pooing and scalp massages with mix of coconut, tea-tree oil, eucalyptus oil, and lavender oil (i recently added vitamin e oil).     @Jeni I remember reading that post thanks for linking it. Do you recommend leaving the oil mixture on your scalp for the whole week while re-applying as needed during the week? or just limit it to a pre-poo?

    No prob. I'd say a mix of both to reap the most benefit. I pre-poo with it and then then the day after my wash, I use it for a scalp massage during week, as needed. What I've noticed is that if I start with the mix on a clean scalp, the day after my wash, it limits the flakes and itchiness during the week.

    Hmmm, Shika was having scalp issues not long ago. And my scalp is beginning to itch a bit more as well although I have no flakes. I'm going to try to do some preventive things. Let us know what works for u.
