Super Light Dax Pomade. Sealing with natural oils is nice because they're light, but lately I need something heavier. Sweet almond oil and jojoba oil were too light, and JBCO is a too heavy to use as a daily sealant. Oyin Burnt Sugar pomade smelled so yummy and was nice but its super expensive where I live, and also I found it to be grainy and a little hard to spread. The dax spreads really easily and literally melts in my hands. So I think this product is the happy medium. It's unpopular, but I think my hair will like it in the long run...
Ingredients: Petrolatum, Lanolin, Sweet Almond Oil, Aloe Vera, Avocado Oil, Jojoba Oil, Sesame Oil, Wheat Germ Oil, Safflower Seed Oil, Peanut Oil, Cottonseed Oil, D&C Green #6, Fragrance.
And here's what my hair looks like after moisturizing and sealing with S-curl and dax in 4 sections, then braiding each section and un-braiding after an hour. My hair feels soft and moisturized, but not damp or wet at all. I'm looking forward to seeing how this combo affects my hair over time.
After moisturizing and sealing with S-curl and Dax. I feel so old school lol. Not in love with the way my hair smells, but it sure feels good. I haven't washed my hair in 5 days so its weighed down in these pics. |
What are your thoughts on grease? Anyone else using it?
Why don't you mix half sweet almond/jojoba and JBCO, that way you get best of both worlds without the petrolatum?
ReplyDeleteI was just about to suggest the same thing as sweeteuth! You could mix a selection of oils to a consistency that works best for your hair without the undesired fragrance.
ReplyDeleteGood luck with your experiment, interested to see how you get on.

Let us know if you decide to try mixing the oils like the other ladies suggested, but if not, just use whatever works for you! I think as long as you're not "greasing" your scalp and clogging your pores you should be fine sealing with Dax. I've always been curious about sealing with grease but I'm afraid it'll cause heaviness/build-up! Your hair looks beautiful though. You are one of my hair inspirations!
ReplyDeleteThat's a great idea to mix oils!! I used up all my pure carrier oils during the summer so I'll have to eventually purchase more to try it out.
ReplyDeleteI will still seal with JBCO from time to time, but if it can be thinned out for daily use that would be great. Thanks for the suggestion ladies.
Is it safe to say that moisturizing and sealing your hair everyday is harmless. Cause my friend tried telling me that doing it daily is too much... I usually use argan oil or jojoba oil with Olive Oil Moisturizer every night on my hair.
ReplyDeleteJesula it's just a matter of how your hair responds to daily moisturizing and sealing. For me it has saved my hair and reduced breakage considerably so I do it daily. But some others only do it a few times a week, depending on how their hair feels.
ReplyDeleteI don't like to rely on how my hair feels though. Think of it this way. By the time you feel thirsty, your body is already dehydrated (Source: http://www.watercure.com/faq.html). I think of it the same way with hair. A dry hair cuticle should be regarded as the last outward sign of "dehydration" of the entire hair shaft.
I would say continue moisturizing and sealing daily if your hair likes it. If you have problems with buildup, skip the sealing sometimes.
omg girl your hair looks amazing! and s-curl has been my baby all summer long! I can't believe I didn't jump on this bandwagon sooner; are you going to continue to use it in the colder months? I've heard that when the air is dry glycerin based moisturizers can actually cause your hair to LOSE moisture. *shrugs* I'll see what my hair tells me around October. Also, I understand about some oils being too light, I have been loving castor oil (regular, not JBCO) since last year for that reason. Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteyour hair looks healthy so clearly you know what you are doing :D hehe i will stay tuned for more updates. how many times a week do seal with dax?
ReplyDeletepattieloves -thanks :) I seal with dax once or twice a week. This is just an experiment and so far so good. I use it in rotation with other sealants right now.
ReplyDeleteAre you still using grease to seal now? Do you feel that the grease keeps your ends moisturized all week? If you use it and then put your hair in an updo, does it make the rest of your hair feel greasy? Lol sorry for all the questions, but I'm this close to buying Blue Magic Coconut Oil (another brand of grease) to test on my ends!
ReplyDeleteI've recently gotten my hands on coconut oil so I've been experimenting with that lately. But using grease to seal definitely kept my hair (especially the ends) feeling good and soft all week. If I use it and put my hair in an updo, yes it makes my hair get dirty faster (attracts dirt) but not greasy because I only use a little. I can't speak for Blue Magic but I know Dax light pomade is great and light.
