* I'm still on board with the rollersetting challenge! Rollersetting is an amazing way to style your hair and keep it moisturized without using heat. Just 2 nights ago I rolled my hair in flexi-rods after moisturizing and sealing, and left them in overnight for a curly updo the next morning. I've also been staying away from heat, and bunning a lot. Keeping it oh so simple.
* I can't help but feel like my retention needs to be kicked up a notch. I've been seeing great update posts lately from other bloggers and I must say that everyone is on the grow! Except me?! Still (quite happy) at MBL but still have a way to go until waist. maybe the new growth is hiding some length?
* Honeyfig Wishlist: Curl Junkie Hibiscus & Banana Deep Fix Conditioner, and/or Salerm Wheat Germ Conditioning Treatment.
* Sulfur 8: I purchased this product a few days ago to (hopefully) increase my hair growth. There are a ton of sulfur challenges on the hair boards and many people swear by sulfur or sulfur-containing products (ie. MTG, MSM supplements etc) to boost hair growth. So I though what the heck. I found this product at my local beauty supply for 5 dollars, and the sulfur content is 2%. Pretty low risk experiment.
Usually for me, grease/pomade on the scalp means my hair will get greasy and will definitely get itchy the next day. I've been using this product and haven't washed my hair in a couple days. While my scalp and new growth is an oil slick (I'm heavy handed), my scalp is NOT itchy in the least! Which is really strange! I did a little research and this product is supposed to help with dandruff too. Note that it smells absolutely horrendous. But it makes the length of my hair pretty soft. Did I mention the intense and refreshing tingle? Probably from the menthol content. Love it. Makes it feel like my hair is growing lol! I'll be using this until the jar finishes. If I see any results I'll post about it and repurchase.
* Hairstyles: I've been wearing my hair in a bun an awful lot. Or under a wig. Last week I wore my hair straight to my aunt's birthday party but that's about it. Protective styling for the win! I need to buy more wigs though because it's getting to that point in my stretch when just can't be bothered to fuss with my hair.
* Speaking of stretch I will be 9 weeks post as of next Wednesday. I have no ambition to relax any time soon. Especially Since I've been using the Sulfur 8. I can go to at least March, maybe even April. The idea of using a Just for Me texture softener instead of full-out relaxer is intriguing. Either that or my favourte Optimum No-Lye with EVOO mixed in. A local BSS started carrying the Optimum Smart-Lye relaxer which has caught my eye.
* I want to wash my hair either tonight or tomorrow morning. The plan is to:
1) Hot Oil treat, pre-poo and deep condition all at once with Coconut Oil and EVOO (both oils can penetrate the hair shaft)
2) Shampoo with a drugstore shampoo and 2nd lather with Keracare Hydrating Detangling Shampoo
3) Condition w/ a drugstore conditioner
4) Leave-in, moisturize and seal
TGIF!

What's motivating your thoughts on using a texture softener?
ReplyDeleteYour hair plans have me motivated to do my hair this weekend. I've been slacking a bit lately. Good luck on your stretch, rollersetting, and the sulfer 8!
Yay! I've been looking for a post from you! I am light-weight using sulfur again but ONLY on wash day in my pre 'poo.
ReplyDeleteHey Ally. I actually used Sulfur 8 a couple of years ago to deal with my dandruff. It tingled a bit too much for me! But I never knew that sulfur could promote hair growth. Thanks for that tidbit of info!
ReplyDeleteGrowing up my mom put sulfur 8 in my hair religiously and I never had dandruff or an itchy scalp so I am VERY familiar with its benefits.... I hated how greasy my hair was all the time tho so as soon I could, I stopped using it. I have HIH syndrome (hand in hair lol) so instead I pop MSM tablets to get sulfur..... Good luck with it! Hoping to be around your length next year!! (working on APL-BSL this year)
ReplyDeleteMy mom did the very say thing. Never experienced dandruff or itchy scalp but I agree, my hair was greasy all the time; I hated that.
Delete"What's motivating your thoughts on using a texture softener?"
ReplyDeleteKim I started adding oils into my relaxer a while ago and now the top few inches of my hair is slightly textured (only in the very back, the rest is bone straight). I like the little bit of texture, and with a flat iron it still gets bone straight. So A texture softener would allow me to achieve the same thing, if not more texture retention. What do you think?
I love this blabber! Glad that you are seeing such great benefits from RS'ing. I think its gonna be key for me in retention for the rest of the year and definitely to help me keep my thick, blunt ends. Can't wait to see ur wash day!

Sulfur8 products do make your hair grow. When I was in middle school my hair was barely shoulder length. I had problems with itching and dandruff. A problem that began when I was 9 years old. I got really sick and had to stay out of school for 3 months. My mother did not wash my hair. So this bad dandruff began to surface and my hair almost came out. I started using sulfur 8 shampoo and hair oil. My hair began to grow. By the time I was 15 my hair was way down my back. It was very thick too. However, sulfur stinks. Plus there were other factors that contributed to my hair growth, like hormones, cutting, wrapping my hair to retain moisture, no using a lot of perms, excessive heat, a good hair stylist etc. My hair is very long and thick now, it is your length when straightened. But that is because I am natural. My hair started to come out again some years ago, so I decided to stop using perms forever. However, my hair is not the thickness it used to be when I was 15.( I had very, very thick hair) I have often contemplated using sulfur product again. If not the shampoo, at least the oil.
ReplyDeleteI like sulfur 8 and I do believe that it does increase hair growth. I dont use the grease but I use a spray and compared to grease, I like it a whole lot better.
